Civil Marriage in Ras Al Khaimah

A court marriage in Ras Al Khaimah is concluded before a judge of the Ras Al Khaimah Courts, under the UAE’s federal law. Every document must reach the court in Arabic, so the paperwork is where we begin.

Ras Al Khaimah Court Marriage — Standard or Express

The court and the certificate are the same, whichever of our two routes you take. In our experience, the standard route takes about three weeks and the express route seven working days, counted from a complete file. Papers that must first be translated into Arabic, or attested in the country that issued them, run on their own clock before that count begins — which is why we look at them first.

  • A terrace above a quiet shore, ochre mountains beyond at sunset

    Standard

Our ordinary route — in our experience, a date in weeks rather than months.

    • About 3 weeks
    • For couples without a fixed date
    • Suits a date a few weeks away
    • Every document in Arabic
  • A cream linen folder closed with a gold wax seal on a travertine table, two gold wedding bands and a gold pen beside it, white roses behind

    Express

Our faster route through the same court, for a date that cannot move — the file prepared for it from the first day.

    • 7 working days once your documents are ready
    • Our pace, not a separate court service
    • Same court, same certificate
    • Our Abu Dhabi Express route is faster

Weighing Ras Al Khaimah against Abu Dhabi? Set the two emirates side by side

Who can apply, and on which terms, depends on your passports and on where each of you lives. We confirm it before anything is booked.

Is Ras Al Khaimah Right for You

When Ras Al Khaimah Is the Right Emirate

Ras Al Khaimah suits couples for whom time matters most, once its conditions fit them. These are the situations that usually decide it — including the ones that point to Abu Dhabi instead.

  • A Date Within Weeks

In our experience, about three weeks as standard, against about three months for a regular appointment in Abu Dhabi. For a couple without a fixed date, weeks rather than months is often what decides it.

  • You Are Both 21 or Older

The federal law Ras Al Khaimah applies asks both partners to be at least 21. Abu Dhabi’s own law sets the age at 18 — if either of you is under 21, Abu Dhabi is the court to look at.

  • Papers From Abroad

Every document goes to the court in Arabic, and papers issued abroad carry their attestation first: in the country that issued them, at the UAE embassy there, then at the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. That chain is where we start.

  • One of You Was Married Before

Proof of how an earlier marriage ended — a divorce decree or a death certificate — joins the file, translated and attested like every other paper. It is the document we ask about first.

  • A Date That Cannot Move

Our express route in Ras Al Khaimah takes seven working days once the papers are in order. If your date allows only one to two, our Abu Dhabi Express route is the faster one.

  • The Certificate Travels Far

Both emirates issue an official UAE certificate, attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for use abroad. Where it must be accepted abroad, we check with the authority that will read it before you choose an emirate.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Couples Ask About Marrying in Ras Al Khaimah

01 Which law applies to a civil marriage in Ras Al Khaimah?
The UAE’s federal law on civil personal status, Federal Decree-Law No. 41 of 2022. The Ras Al Khaimah Courts began accepting civil marriage applications under it in February 2023. Abu Dhabi has a law of its own, which is why the two emirates differ on points such as the minimum age: under the federal law, both partners must be at least 21; in Abu Dhabi, 18. The Abu Dhabi court and its own law
02 Can we marry in Ras Al Khaimah if one of us is Muslim?
No. In Ras Al Khaimah both partners must be non-Muslim; the court applies the federal law on civil personal status, which is written for non-Muslims. Abu Dhabi is different: its civil court marries couples irrespective of religion, and the one exception its own page names is Muslim citizens of the UAE. Where one of you is Muslim, Abu Dhabi is therefore the civil route we arrange. Abu Dhabi’s civil court when one of you is Muslim
03 Which documents does the Ras Al Khaimah court ask for?
Among the documents the court lists: identity documents for both of you and, if either of you was married before, proof of how that marriage ended. Every document must reach the court in Arabic, in a legal translation approved by the UAE Ministry of Justice. Papers issued abroad must first be attested by the foreign ministry of the issuing country, then by the UAE embassy there and the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs. We confirm the complete list for your case before anything is filed. The Ras Al Khaimah Courts’ civil marriage service
04 How long does a court marriage in Ras Al Khaimah take?
In our experience, about three weeks as standard and seven working days on our express route, counted from a complete file. A paper that must first be translated into Arabic, or attested in the country that issued it, runs on its own clock before that count begins. If your date allows only one to two working days, our Abu Dhabi Express route is the faster one. Express routes for a fixed wedding date
05 What does a civil marriage in Ras Al Khaimah cost?
The court charges its own fee for issuing the civil marriage document. Legal translations and attestations carry fees of their own, set by the translator and by each authority in the chain. When we prepare the marriage with you, the court’s fee is included in our package price, which we set out after the consultation.
06 What do we receive after the ceremony?
An approved electronic civil marriage contract, which you collect from the court’s service centre or receive by Emirates Post. The federal law provides for a bilingual contract form; whether yours is issued in Arabic and English, we confirm with the court. For use outside the UAE, the certificate is attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; whether your home country then accepts it, directly or after its own embassy has legalised it, is that country’s decision.
