Eloping Abroad

Eloping to the UAE

Couples who meet the Abu Dhabi court’s conditions can elope to the UAE and marry in law on the trip. On our express route it completes in 1–2 working days once your papers are in order, and the court needs no witnesses, so it can be just the two of you.

Our Fastest Civil Route

The Shape of the Day

Just the Two of You, or a Few More?

Both work at the Abu Dhabi court. It requires no witnesses, so the two of you are enough, and it welcomes family and friends if you want a few people there. The ceremony is brief either way. What changes is the day around it: a quiet table for two, or a long dinner for the people who flew in.

  • A small marble table on a balcony above a calm sea in soft pastel light, set with two flutes of champagne, a single white rose in a slim vase and two gold wedding bands on a folded ivory napkin

    Just the Two of You

The court needs nobody but the two of you, and the day can stay that small.

    • No witnesses required by the court
    • Rings and your own vows, if you tell the officiating team
    • Portraits afterwards with a photographer we offer
    • On express, a date and hour you choose yourselves
  • A long table on a stone terrace at dusk, laid for six with an ivory linen cloth, white roses, lit taper candles and rattan chairs, lanterns glowing at either end

    A Few of Your People

Family or close friends beside you at the court, and a long dinner for the people who made the trip.

    • Guests welcome at the ceremony
    • Photographs inside on your guests’ phones, or by the studio in the Civil Marriage Section
    • A photographer we offer for the dinner afterwards
    • One confirmed date your guests can book their flights around

The Trip

An Elopement in Abu Dhabi, From First Message to Flight Home

Express if your dates are fixed; on the regular route we see court dates about three months ahead. Passports, and a decree or death certificate if either of you was married before.

  2. 02

    Before You Fly

We prepare the application with you. After approval and the court’s fee, the date and time are confirmed by email.

  3. 03

    The Flight Out

Booked for the confirmed date, with your passports, the only papers the court asks for on the day.

  4. 04

    At the Court

The Civil Family Court beside Zayed Sports City. Inside, photographs come from your guests’ phones or the studio in its Civil Marriage Section.

  5. 05

    Portraits

Afterwards, with a photographer we offer, somewhere the light and the setting suit the two of you.

  6. 06

    The Certificate

MOFA attests the certificate. If your country needs an embassy step as well, we tell you before you plan your stay.

The Photographs

Who Photographs an Elopement at the Court?

Inside the Civil Family Court, photographs are taken on phones only; professional cameras are not allowed. Your guests may take pictures, and a provider runs a photography studio in the Civil Marriage Section under an agreement with the court. The portraits come afterwards, in the light and the place you choose. For those, we offer you a photographer who suits your day, from the partners we work with.

Afterwards

A Small Edition of the Day

An elopement has few people who saw it. Our Editorial Feature, the 20-page Edition, is made for civil marriages, elopements and intimate celebrations: the day told in words and photographs, printed and kept as a digital archive. It is a separate order, made from the photographs once they exist.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Couples Ask Before Eloping to the UAE

01 Do we need witnesses to elope in Abu Dhabi?
No. The Abu Dhabi court states that there is no requirement to bring a witness, so the two of you are enough. Family and friends may come if you want them there, and the ceremony goes ahead with or without them. You can exchange rings and say vows of your own if you let the officiating team know when you arrive. The court’s civil marriage page, in its own words
02 Can our civil ceremony take place on a beach or in a garden?
The civil ceremony we arrange takes place at the Civil Family Court in Abu Dhabi, and that is where you become married in law. A beach, a terrace or a garden is for what follows: your portraits, a symbolic exchange of vows, a dinner. The court part stays brief, so the rest of the day can belong to the place you choose. How the Abu Dhabi court conducts a civil ceremony
03 One of us was married before. Can we still elope on express?
Yes, if you meet the court’s conditions. The divorce decree, or a late spouse’s death certificate, goes in with the application; on the day itself, the court asks only for your passports. The decree needs no legalisation. If it is in a language other than English or Arabic, it needs a translation. That can take longer than the 1–2 working days of express, so it is the first paper we ask about. The court’s conditions and the papers it lists What decides whether express can work for you
04 Can we celebrate with our families at home afterwards?
Yes, in whatever form you like, a party or a symbolic ceremony. Whether your home country asks for anything further for the Abu Dhabi certificate is for its own authorities: the court refers couples with questions to their embassy, and we check what yours asks for before you book.
