Court Marriage From Dubai

Most court marriages we arrange for couples in Dubai take place at the Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court. If you both live in the UAE with valid Emirates IDs, you can attend by video; otherwise it is a short ceremony, an hour and a half away.

For Residents

Valid Emirates IDs for both of you open the video route.

How You Attend

Dubai Court Marriage — At the Abu Dhabi Court or by Video

Can you have a court marriage from Dubai? Yes: most of the court marriages we arrange for couples in Dubai take place at the Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court, which marries residents and visitors alike. Dubai’s own civil route is a separate process that we do not arrange. If you both live in the UAE and hold valid Emirates IDs, you may join the ceremony by video; otherwise you attend in Abu Dhabi.

    • Guests welcome, phone cameras only inside
    • Rings and vows if you wish
    • Open to visitors as well as residents
  • An open laptop on a travertine desk beside a linen folder closed with a gold wax seal, a gold pen, two wedding bands and a ribbon-tied stack of ivory envelopes

    By Video From Anywhere

The same court and the same certificate, with the ceremony joined by videoconference from wherever you are — in the Emirates or abroad.

    • Both partners resident in the UAE
    • A valid Emirates ID for each of you
    • Join from home or while travelling
    • The certificate issued as at the court

The court offers video only where everyone taking part lives in the UAE, so it is not open to visitors.

Ras Al Khaimah is the other emirate where we arrange court marriages. There, both partners must be non-Muslim, and the court sets its own conditions on where you live; we confirm them for your case.

Is Abu Dhabi Right for You

Which Court Suits a Couple Living in Dubai?

For most couples in Dubai, the Abu Dhabi court: it marries couples of any faith, Muslim UAE citizens excepted, and asks for no residency and no witnesses. Our express route there completes in 1–2 working days once your papers are ready. In Ras Al Khaimah both partners must be non-Muslim, and the court sets its own conditions on where you live.

  • Any Faith, One Exception

The Abu Dhabi court concludes civil marriages irrespective of religion or nationality. The one exception its own page names is Muslim citizens of the UAE.

  • Passports, and IDs if You Live Here

Each of you declares on the court’s form that you are not married to anyone else, so the court asks for no separate certificate of single status and no witnesses. On the day you bring your passports, and your Emirates IDs if you live here.

  • No Translation for Papers in English

Documents in English or Arabic need no translation; whether one issued abroad needs attesting first, we check document by document. If either of you was married before, the divorce judgment or death certificate goes in with the application.

  • A Date That Will Not Move

Our express route completes in 1–2 working days once your papers are in order, and you choose the date and time yourselves. On the regular route, dates are booking about three months ahead in our experience.

  • Aged 18 or Older

Abu Dhabi’s civil marriage law sets the minimum age at 18 for both partners, and neither may be married to anyone else.

  • When Ras Al Khaimah Fits

Ras Al Khaimah is the other emirate where we arrange court marriages. Both partners must be non-Muslim, and the court sets its own conditions on where you live, which we confirm for your case; its standard route takes about three weeks in our experience.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Couples in Dubai Ask About a Court Marriage

01 Why do you not arrange marriages at Dubai’s own courts?
Because the court marriages we arrange take place in Abu Dhabi and Ras Al Khaimah, where we know every step from the application to the attested certificate. Dubai’s civil route is a separate process with conditions of its own, and we leave it to the authority that runs it. For a couple living in Dubai, the Abu Dhabi court is close by, and residents can even attend by video. Marrying in Abu Dhabi without UAE residency
02 How far is the court from Dubai, and can you drive us there?
The Civil Family Court sits in the main building of the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department, beside Zayed Sports City, about an hour and a half by road from central Dubai. Our own chauffeur can take you there and back on the day. If you both live in the UAE and hold valid Emirates IDs, you can skip the drive and join by video, even while you are abroad.
03 Can our families and our own photographer come to the ceremony?
Your families can, and they may take photographs on their phones. Inside the court only mobile phones are allowed, no professional cameras, and a provider runs a photography studio in the Civil Marriage Section under an agreement with the court. You may exchange rings and recite your own vows if you tell the officiating team on arrival. The ceremony stays short — the court aims to complete it within fifteen minutes — so the portraits and a longer celebration usually follow elsewhere. For those, we offer you a photographer who suits your day. The partners we introduce for the celebration
04 Can we sign a prenuptial agreement at the same court?
Yes, if you want one; it is optional, and we prepare it with you, as we do a will. The Abu Dhabi court authenticates civil prenuptial agreements and sends a template once the application is in. Like the ceremony, the authentication can be done in person or, where both of you live in the UAE, by videoconference. The court’s civil marriage and prenuptial services
05 What happens if we cannot make our ceremony date?
The court needs notice at least 24 hours before the appointment. It will try to find you another date, but fees are refundable only in very limited circumstances, and without that notice it asks for a new application. Tell us as soon as your plans shift, and we give the court that notice for you.
